Your Gateway to World-Class Education

Australian Education System

Pre-school Education:

Pre-school education is for children aged three to five years old which focuses on early education and preparation for primary school.

Primary Education:

Primary education goes from the ‘Kinder’ or Kindergarten up to Year 6, with learners aged between five and twelve years. During these seven years, students are taught the foundations of literacy, and numeracy as well as the basic concepts of science and social studies.

Secondary Education:

Secondary Education contains Years 7-12 in which years 7 to 10 are known as junior secondary and years 11 and 12 as senior secondary. The Senior Secondary Certificate of Education is provided upon completion of Year 12 which plays a pivotal role in obtaining tertiary education admissions.

Vocational Education and Training (VET):

VET is provided across colleges that specialize in imparting industry-specific practical skills. This stage involves Certificates I to IV, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma. This level-based progression provides education from entry-level skills to more specialised industry experience. These courses are targeted at students graduating from secondary school and those wanting to study more practical courses such as Automotive, Building, Cookery, Hairdressing and so on. By offering a more practical approach to learning, students find transitioning to employment much easier. Some students use these courses as a stepping stone to help them transition to a university course that is similar in nature and content.

Higher Education (Universities):

Australia’s Higher education Institutions consist of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses. Undergraduate courses include diplomas, advanced diplomas, associate degrees, or – most commonly – a bachelor’s degree, and in specific disciplines, the bachelor (honours) degree. Postgraduate courses include graduate certificates, graduate diplomas and master’s degrees which provide more extensive education that has already been formed by the foundations of the bachelor’s degree. Following a master’s degree is the Doctoral degree or PhD which is purely research-based and involves the student working alongside the specific faculty professor in conducting research toward their own dissertation or thesis.

Pathways Programs

Upon concluding their secondary education, students in Australia are presented with a choice: students have the option of choosing between a vocational pathway that ensures practical skills and a university Pathway that is more academically focused. However, certain vocational pathways allow the student to join the university pathway (if they have met the pre-requisite conditions) which ensures students are provided with a broad spectrum of educational choices and career trajectories.

Australian Education Approach

Holistic Approach: Academic and personality development features highly from pre-school to tertiary education. This not only helps in the intellectual cultivation of students, but also moral, civic, and emotional development.

Global Recognition: Global top rankings always comprise Australian institutions, which indicates that the country’s education has become synonymous with international prominence. The fact that Australia is one of the top destinations for international students in turn generates graduate exports whereby high-quality and employable graduates become attractive to other countries.

Inclusivity and Diversity: As seen earlier, embracing diversity does not only concern international students. The Australian education system (pre-school to tertiary) is reflected in its multiculturalism. Through this diversity and culture students are exposed to richer education experiences by the fact that they can interact with many different cultures, beliefs, and ideas.

Practical Exposure: The vocational education and training (VET) sector and tertiary in Australia have work placement during the course at the industry level that makes it easy for students to be job-ready rather than creates a gap between study to employment.

Research and Innovation: Research and Innovation in Australia are ranked among the leading. Hence, the ‘beyond the books’ principle ensures that students are not passive learners but exponents of their specialised areas.
